2018 sees the 50th anniversary of retired MSU astronomy
professor Horace Smith joining the AAVSO, the American
Association of Variable Star Observers, one of the oldest and
most important Citizen Science organizations in astronomy.
Horace will tell not only how he came to join the AAVSO,
but how for more than a century its members have kept track
of pulsating, eclipsing, and exploding stars (and, now,
transiting exoplanets). He will review some highlights of the
past half century of variable star astronomy, a field where
there is much still to be discovered. Join us Wed. Sept. 5 at Abrams Planetarium for our monthly meeting!!
