Wow!! We had some amazing aurora earlier this Month!! I drove just north of Maple Rapids and was able to see the most amazing Aurora! Even with the moon still up you could clearly see greens and reds- in fact the aurora were so strong every direction I pointed the camera we were seeing lights! Hopefully we will get another event like this- as the same solar region that had sunspot AR3664 and caused the last aurora storm, has since rotated around the sun and is back- named now AR3697!
Summer is here and with people traveling and enjoying the nice evening weather, we are going to be taking a summer break and will not have meetings in June and July. We are still having observing sessions at Fox Park and MSU observatory- so make sure you stop out to get your time under some Dark Skies to recharge. We have been having great turnouts for Fox Park Public nights! Let me know if you want to try for another solar observing event up on the Parking ramp behind Abrams- There are some large sunspots to view.
In August we will have our annual Picnic/BBQ at Fox Park for the August meeting; This will be AUG. 7. We will have solar observing set up for the picnic and can stay later to observe once it gets dark.
Also in August is the Annual Fox Park Star Party!
