July Meeting: James Webb Telescope one year Anniversary

Updated: Jul 4, 2023

For our July Meeting we will be Live streaming the NASA Experts Panel for the one year Anniversary of JWST!

July 12 is the one year Anniversary of the first images released from the JWST!

Join us in The Planetarium as we celebrate this one-year anniversary of the first Webb Telescope images!

At 7:00 pm, we will present a NASA’s live stream featuring an expert panel discussing the first year of JWST science and a new image release! After the live stream, we will have a slideshow of JWST images on the dome.

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Kelly Lepo (Space Telescope Science Institute). The panelists will be:

  • Dr. Christine Chen (STScI) (expert in debris disks and star & planet formation)

  • Dr. Bryan Holler (STScI) (expert in solar system planetary science)

  • Dr. Taylor Hutchison (NASA-GSFC) (expert in early galaxies)

  • Dr. Emily Rickman (STScI) (expert in exoplanets)

Discoveries: Webb has identifies the earliest strands of the cosmic web, found that the early universe crackled with bursts of star formation, proved that galaxies transformed the early universe and made the first detection of a carbon molecule, never before seen in space, that is a cornerstone of interstellar organic chemistry.

NASA has sent us some nice poster prints of the First Anniversary image captured by the JWST to hand out, along with some stickers and bookmarks.

The Live stream will start at 7:00pm on July 12 at Abrams Planetarium. Plan on arriving between 6:30-7 in order to get a seat!
