October CAAA Events!

There is no formal meeting this month, but we have a few astronomy events going on this month instead of our usual club meeting:

Partial Solar Eclipse on Oct 14, 2023

On October 14th there is an annular solar eclipse that will pass across the United States. From Michigan we will see about 40% of the sun covered by the moon as a partial solar eclipse. Join Abrams Planetarium and the MSU Observatory to safely view the sun during this event with our telescopes with special filters. In the event of poor weather, we will be able to live stream eclipse in the planetarium theater from another location.

WHEN: Oct 14, 2023 from 11:30am to 2:30pm at Abrams Planetarium

This will also be a great time to test out your solar viewing equipment to get ready for next years total eclipse! So bring out your solar filters, binoculars and telescopes and share some views with the Public!

Astronomical Horizons Lecture:

Thursday October 26, 2023: 7:30 pm

"The History of Abrams Planetarium" Craig Whitford, Volunteer, Abrams Planetarium

This lecture series held at the Abrams Planetarium surveys the latest developments in astronomy. Astronomical Horizons is offered by the Department of Physics and Astronomy through its astronomy group and Abrams Planetarium. Each talk begins at 7:30 p.m. and there is no charge for admission.

Astronomy on Tap event:

Wed. Oct. 18, 7:30pm at Michigan Wildlife Conservancy

AHHH-stronomy Spooky Astronomy Stories.

This was a fun event last year and should be just as fun this year!
